2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder

Since the high technology design of super car, 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder is the lightest model in the Porsche line-up. Porsche Boxster Spyder use the great system of power such as purist form of the Porsche sport car. Porsche Boxster Spyder become the modernizer of new model design in boxster range of the year.

With the all-new Porsche Boxster Spyder, Porsche is introducing a new, lightweight version of the mid-engine Porsche Boxster roadster at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December, the distinctive styling and technical specification of which represents the true, purist form of the Porsche sports car - light, powerful, open-roofed, and very efficient.

This is precisely the formula already applied in creating the most successful road-going sports and racing cars throughout the history of Porsche, ranging from the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder of the 1950s to the RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype race car so successful in motorsport today.

Weighing 1,275kg, the Porsche Boxster Spyder is the lightest model in the Porsche line-up, and continues this clear-cut philosophy in a package offering full homologation for the road, reflecting a common wish expressed by Porsche customers.

The new model becomes the third version in the Boxster range, joining the Boxster and Boxster S, yet stands out clearly at first sight from the other versions of the mid-engined roadster, quite simply because the Spyder has been developed first and foremost for driving in the open air. The low-slung, lightweight soft top extends far to the rear and serves to protect the driver and passenger from bright sunshine, wind and rain. When closed, the soft top, together with the bespoke extra-low side windows and the two unique, striking bulges on the single-piece rear lid, boasts a stretched and sleek silhouette reminiscent of the Porsche Carrera GT.

Significantly, the new model weighs 80kg less than the Porsche Boxster S which, combined with a lower centre of gravity and revised suspension, gives the Porsche Boxster Spyder the calibre of driving dynamics that clearly reflect the unique look of the car.

The Porsche Boxster Spyder features a tuned version of the proven 3.4-litre flat six 'boxer' engine with Direct Fuel Injection, which is located ahead of the rear axle. Maximum output is 320 bhp, 10 bhp more than in the Boxster S.

2009 Boxster S was summer's best car

How long does it take to become a legend - ten, twenty years? The Porsche Boxster might not have the stature of the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera but now that it has been a part of the automotive fabric for over ten years, it feels like a model that will be with us forever more. Having been fortunate, over this past, glorious summer to drive the base Boxster and Boxster S back to back it has become obvious to me that this is an excellent car for many reasons. New for 2009 is a long list of improvements from engine to transmission, styling, interior amenities and more. With the wetter weather just about to begin, now is the time to be doing your homework and getting a convertible for what could be another stellar summer in 2010.

The Skin

Porsche isn't a brand that makes radical changes to their vehicles from year to year so spotting the updates to the Boxster S is for those with a keen eye. The most obvious thing to look for is the introduction of LED daytime running lights integrated into the front air intakes. The headlight assembly has been reworked along with the addition of LED rear taillights. The Boxster S is still a traditional convertible and not a trendy retractable hardtop. The benefit of this roof design is it opens in seconds, it is simple and it doesn't steal all the trunk space. In fact the Boxster is one of the most practical convertible sports cars on the planet with not just a trunk but also a huge cargo area under the front hood. The engine is placed in the middle of the car, just behind the seats, which means the side air intakes are fully functional.
The Cockpit

As much as Porsche is a pioneer in advanced mechanical engineering, they have lagged behind the marketplace with the introduction of advanced electronics and communications integration. It is hard to believe but Bluetooth connectivity and iPod integration were not even an option until this model year. Thankfully, the whole Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system has been updated to include touch screen radio and navigation control allowing the driver to at least pay extra to have their iPod or Bluetooth phone connected. I believe this should be standard. The steering wheel is new too. In order to shift the optional double clutch transmission (PDK) the button on the steering wheel is pushed forward to shift up and back to shift down, which is the exact opposite of the majority of other manufacturers.
The Ride

As good as the base car is, the S model is the way to go for any driving enthusiasts. For 2009, 15 hp has been added to bring the total to 310 hp for the S model and torque is up too. This increase is due to the addition of direct injection technology that pumps up power, yet improves fuel consumption. The other major improvement is the optional double clutch automatic transmission that is automatically or manually controlled by the already mentioned paddle shifters. This unit provides lightning quick shifts up and down and has seven gears to choose from. This new gearing provides more flexibility for the driver. The suspension is a perfect balance of performance and comfort, making the Boxster S a perfect companion for daily driving duties.
The Good, The Bad

Good: More power, slick new transmission and funky looking LED running lights make this latest Boxster S an alternative to a more expensive 911.

Bad: I know that Porsche wants to up sell buyers on options like iPod integration and Bluetooth connectivity but, come on, this stuff is standard on a basic $16,000 Kia. These options are extortionately expensive too.

Honda Accord Crosstour 2010

The Honda Accord Crosstour's styling and body construction evolved from the sophisticated foundation of the Accord Sedan. Architecturally similar to the distinctive shape of the Accord, key differences can be found throughout the entire body. No exterior panels are shared with any other Accord. The most noticeable differences include the overall height of the body from the floor to the roof and the obvious design differences in the rear of the vehicle to accommodate the sloped roofline and the tailgate.

The heightened body dimensions combined with increased ground clearance result in a commanding view of the road and a comfortable hip point for ease of entering and exiting the vehicle. Structural technology includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, an exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. Extensive application of high-strength steel (46 percent) contributes to high levels of torsional and static rigidity, reduced weight, and enhanced safety potential. Aerodynamic performance is increased through strategic use of under-body covers and strakes.

Exterior Styling Concept

The exterior styling builds on the Accord's familiar character lines and adds a bolder front grille complemented by a durable lower-body appearance, wedge-shaped D-pillars and an aggressive rear stance. The designers sought to build on the Accord's style that is already powerful, bold and sophisticated. Like the Honda Accord Sedan, the Accord Crosstour's design is both sharp and strong, with a powerful-looking stance. Starting at the front, the Honda Accord Crosstour's front fascia is enlarged and raised for dynamic toughness, and incorporates a wider and taller 6-point grille with large, horizontal slats surrounded by sharp and wide projector beam headlights. Well-defined wheel arches convey a strong stance and muscular tension. The fender lines appear broadened, like strongly muscled shoulders, with prominent character lines that sweep along nearly the entire body sides, subtly transitioning from an inverse line to an external line. Besides providing visual distinctiveness, these character lines communicate strength and structural depth. The flowing roofline narrows smoothly into the rear of the vehicle to create an aggressive-looking design, concealing a unique cargo area that can adapt to large objects that exceed the capacity of a normal sedan.

Body Construction

Increased rigidity enables enhanced vehicle dynamics, ride comfort and driving quietness. The Honda Accord Crosstour is constructed of 46 percent high strength steel (340 grade or above) to create a strong, yet lightweight body with high rigidity and enhanced safety. The ACE Body structure further enhances frontal collision compatibility between vehicles with different bumper heights. The Maximum Efficiency Floor (MEF) design is comprised of a network of longitudinal rails, floor cross-members and pillar reinforcements that carry heavy loads to enhance crash safety, handling and packaging efficiency. High tensile strength steel tubular beams inside the door structure provide additional intrusion resistance.
